According to Tibetan oral traditions, the existence of Singing Bowls dates back to 560-480 B.C.; the tradition was brought back from INDIA to TIBET, along with the teaching of Buddha by some great “ Tantric” masters in the Tibetan region.

In 1951 China invaded Tibet. Then the Chinese began to destroy most of the monasteries & temples. Many monks fled the country. Living outside their country and in poverty created pressure to sell their belongings, which contributed to the gradual appearance of the singing bowls on the western market in the 1960’s & 1970’s.
That metal bowls can make beautiful sounds and can be used as tools for meditation & healing is new to the modern world. Very little is known about how the bowls were used in the past. Even in Tibet they were not very well known and were kept & used secretly by the monks & lamas.
Singing Bowls have been in use in Great Vedic Civilization, Buddhist Meditation & Spiritual philosophy, Himalayas culture for centuries. Available only to select monks in secluded monasteries of Himalayan region, they have carried the mystique of nirvana (Divine enlightenment ) in their sacred vibrations.
Perhaps guessing about and digging into the origin of Singing Bowls is not very important. They exist, and they have found their way for the benefit of mankind with their healing & transformational energies. Probably this might be enough to know in our approach to the Singing Bowls.

Singing Bowls is a type of bell that is shaped like a bowl. They come in many shapes & sizes and have been made for several centuries.
Created through a exacting & delicate combination of hand – hammered technique & from sacred metals ( primarily Copper & Tin ) and certain other metals in little proportion to enhance the vibration qualities that may include Mercury, Iron, Nickel, Cadmium, Silver, Zinc etc. ) which lend their unique frequency to the vibration of the bowls.
The harmonic sounds created from these bowls aid the meditative process. They are excellent for reducing stress, deep relaxation, Meditation, Chakra Balancing & overall Holistic Healing. They have also found a unique & highly venerated existence among the instruments of world music.
